Opel facts: Now a subsidiary of General Motors, Opel was established in Germany, and after a time being a manufacturer of sewing machines and bicycles, it added automobiles in 1899. GM bought into the company in 1929. Opel cars were imported and sold in Australia under the Holden brand, but in 2012-13 cars were sold here badged as Opel. Poor sales saw that arrangement end in August 2013.
