MG facts: The name MG is a nod to founder Cecil Kimber's debt of gratitude to his former employer and backer of his M.G. Car Company, William Morris, of Morris Motors. Founded in 1923, in 2005, and after a series of ownership changes, the MG name was purchased by the Chinese Nanjing Automobile Group, and renamed MG Motor. The MGB, possibly the marque's most-famous and most-loved model, was manfactured from 1962 to 1980. Of all the MGBs on sale in Australia approximately 9,000 were assembled here, at factories in Sydney's Enfield and Zetland.
