THL Auto Service

I took my car to THL Ringwood for an RWC and got handed a list of fake defects and wildly inflated repair quotes. It felt like they assumed being a woman meant I’d have zero mechanical knowledge and would be an easy target to blindly accept their defects without double-checking. Faked Headlight Defect: They failed my headlights and quoted $95 to align them. I took my car to another local mechanic who checked them on an optical aiming machine and confirmed the alignment was already perfectly fine. Furthermore, when I initially told the THL tester I’d get the lights looked at elsewhere, he offered to "just tick them off" off-the-record and told me not to tell anyone. Made-up Brake Fluid Issue: Quoted me $160 for "contaminated" brake fluid. I texted him stating I had a full fluid flush completed less than 6 months ago and asked him to show me proof of contamination. The second I challenged it, the defect was removed from the updated quote. Probe Pricing & Shifting Explanations: Quoted $95 for front wipers to see if I’d just pay it. The second I challenged the absurd price, the tester backpedaled, claiming the $95 was for "full assemblies" and dropped it to $50 for "refills." Retroactive Fee Changes: I was explicitly told in person that the 14-day re-inspection was free. 10 minutes after I walked out, I got a call demanding $50. When I brought up the free re-inspection policy written on their website, the tester admitted to updating the website text after our conversation. I hold original tax invoices, text messages, receipts, and timestamps for every single detail mentioned above. Do not let this shop take advantage of you always double-check their claims and get an independent second opinion.
