Payless Tyres and Brakes is an independent tyre and mechanical workshop in Forestville

Payless Tyres and Brakes is an independent tyre shop and mechanical workshop at 702 Warringah Road, Forestville, New South Wales, on the northern beaches side of Sydney. The Forestville workshop is one of three the business runs, with the others at Freshwater and Chatswood, and it covers tyres, wheels, brakes, servicing and general mechanical repairs. Because they are independent they supply across brands and work on most makes and models.

What tyres and wheels are available in Forestville?

Tyres are supplied by brand, by vehicle and by size, and the workshop is a listed Pirelli dealer and fitting centre. The range takes in passenger car fitments, 4WD and SUV tyres, all terrain and mud terrain patterns, budget tyres, light truck and commercial sizes, and trailer and caravan tyres. Wheels are also supplied by brand and by vehicle, so a wheel and tyre combination can be put together at the same time. Wheel alignment is done alongside fitting, and puncture repairs are handled at the workshop.

What mechanical repairs and servicing are carried out?

Servicing covers logbook and general servicing, and they service electric vehicles as well. Brake work is in the name of the business and takes in inspection, pad and disc replacement and repairs. Steering and suspension work, exhaust and muffler repairs, air conditioning service, battery testing and replacement, and vehicle diagnostics are all available in the same workshop. They are also a Fulcrum Suspensions store, which gives them access to that range of shock absorbers, springs and suspension kits, and free brake and suspension checks are offered.

Can they carry out a pink slip inspection?

Yes. The Forestville workshop is an authorised inspection station for e-safety checks, the electronic form of the New South Wales pink slip, so a registration inspection can be completed and any repair needed to pass it can be carried out at the same place rather than in two separate visits.

Do they look after commercial and fleet vehicles?

Yes. Light truck and commercial tyres are part of the range, along with trailer and caravan fitments, and the mechanical side covers servicing, brakes, steering, suspension and diagnostics on work vehicles. For a business running vans, utes and trailers around the northern beaches, tyre replacement, servicing and the annual inspection can all be dealt with at the one workshop, which keeps the running around down.

What can customers expect at Payless Tyres and Brakes?

The business puts weight on explaining what a vehicle needs, what the work involves and what the time and cost will be before anything starts, so the customer can make a decision with the full picture. It is a workshop that has built up long standing customers on the northern beaches, and the same team handles both the tyre and the mechanical side.

Payless Tyres and Brakes gives Forestville and the surrounding northern beaches an independent workshop covering tyres, wheels, brakes, servicing and registration inspections.

Everything is good, and they always let you know what's needed to be done. However, this time, they seemed to forget to adjust my maintenance odometer.

Service appears to be good, they rang to tell me I needed a new battery (with another $250 on top of the service). which I wasn't sure if I really needed but went with it anyway. The mechanic said the battery light was flashing, though I never witnessed that myself. The downside was the courtesy car - I'm very grateful to have gotten one but it was so dirty inside, receipts, crumbs all over. The steering wheel was so sticky for dirt. Especially with COVID - they should be practising high cleaning standards when there's strangers touching the cars every day!

Terrific experience. Friendly, helpful and was so useful being able to borrow a car while mine was being serviced. I also really appreciated that they were considerate of finances and were not trying to sell me a whole range of additional services. Thank you will definitely be back in the future.
