I was quoted at drop off $160 to fix a hole in my cars exhaust by Phillip. The mechanic had taken car out the back and looked at the problem and Phillip came over to me in the office where I was sitting on the couch and he said what they'd found and said the charge would be $160 and I said ok cool. He told me it would be a couple of hours. I waited for a bit then decided I would go to a friends house instead. Before I left I confirmed the price at the desk with Phillip before leaving. I said, "So it's $160 right?" And he said, "Correct." When he rang to say car was ready he said $355. I questioned it and he denied quoting $160 and said I misheard. I said but I repeated it at the desk and you confirmed that it was $160 before I left and he said that we both must have misheard each other. On two separate occasions. Unlikely. And regardless of how improbable I said that was he said the price was now $355. I was horrified at the absurdity of the whole thing and the disgustingly rude way he spoke to me over the phone. His tone was loud, aggressive and patronizing. He came across like a total bully not letting me finish my sentences and cutting me off repeatedly. Eventually he agreed to taking the new exhaust off and replacing it with a second hand part and charging the original $160. He behaved as though he was working a miracle and doing me an enormous favour when in actual fact all he did was belittle me, keep my car for the full day from 8am to 5pm instead of the couple of hours he said it would take when I dropped it off and cause me a great deal of distress. While I am thankful that the issue got resolved the way he handled the whole thing was appalling. Not only did this inconvenience me greatly I am still at a loss as to how two people mishear $160 and $355. Also, the way he spoke to me over the phone is not something I will forget in a hurry and it is that mostly which will prevent me from ever going back or saying anything good about Midas in Salisbury and Phillip. Also while I was there he was speaking ill of one of the mechanics there which I found exceptionally inappropriate and unprofessional.
