From November 19 2020, the entire state of South Australia will be implementing a Circuit Breaker in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19.
The Circuit Breaker is being referred to as a pause, which will require everyone to remain home for the next 6 days.
Whilst the South Australian Government has urged everyone to remain calm, we can imagine that impacted citizens have many questions regarding how this Circuit Breaker affects their day to day lives.
The most up to date information regarding Circuit Breaker can be found by visiting https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/response.
Can you get your car serviced or repaired during Circuit Breaker?
Yes. Currently, businesses catering for vehicle repair and mechanical services (including roadside assistance) are listed as essential workers.
Additionally, seeking vehicle mechanical services is listed as a permitted reason to leave home. However, the restriction of only one person being able to leave their home, per day, for the purposes of obtaining essential goods or service still applies.
The South Australian government has not yet provided a clear definition of what an essential repair or mechanical service is, so until there are further updates, service providers will be using their discretion in regards to accepting work.
For example, general servicing and the fitment of accessories may not be deemed essential, whilst mechanical repairs or breakdown services for essential workers may be.
In order to reduce the risk of breaching any lockdown rules, we recommend delaying any work that is not absolutely essential until after the lockdown.

Please note that whilst vehicle repair and mechanical services are permitted to operate as essential workers, some service providers may have voluntarily closed due to other impacts of circuit breaker.

On weekdays Rowan can be found in the AutoGuru office, driving content and growth with the rest of the marketing team.
On weekends you’ll probably find him in the garage with his father restoring a 1958 Ford Star Model Customline or enjoying a cruise through the Gold Coast hinterland on his Suzuki GSX-R600.
Despite his passion for being behind the wheel (or handlebars), he looks forward to the day when he can commute to work in his own driverless car.
